A large, custom-built cabinet designed to elegantly conceal a boiler and heating system, with a matching side unit, fitted for a client in Diss.

The Client’s Vision

After installing a new boiler and heating manifold, our client was faced with a practical but unsightly utility area. They needed a clever solution to hide the pipework and equipment. The goal was to create a cover-up that did not look like a functional utility cupboard, but instead had the charm and presence of a substantial, freestanding piece of furniture, such as a traditional larder.

Our Handcrafted Joinery Solution

Our solution was to design and build a large cabinet that serves as a beautiful disguise. The unit is styled to perfectly mimic a classic larder, completely concealing the boiler while adding timeless character to the room. To enhance the traditional aesthetic, two large, practical doors were crafted to give the illusion of being four smaller ones.

We incorporated classic details like beaded faceframes, and softened the cabinet’s large form with a gracefully curved cornice and skirting. To complete the project, we also built a small, matching cabinet with a solid oak top, providing useful storage and creating a cohesive look.

Premium Materials and Finishing Touches

Both cabinets were meticulously constructed in our workshop to ensure a perfect fit and finish. The solid oak top on the smaller unit adds a touch of natural warmth and durability. Both pieces were then professionally spray-finished in ‘Green Smoke’ by Farrow & Ball, a sophisticated and calming colour that enhances the traditional larder style. The flawless finish turns a practical necessity into a stunning feature.
