A pair of bespoke alcove units designed with a traditional aesthetic and modern features for a Victorian home in Norwich.
The Client’s Vision
The owners of a beautiful Victorian house in Norwich wanted to utilise the alcoves on either side of their fireplace. Their goal was to add practical, elegant storage that appeared as though it were an original feature of the property. It was crucial that the design complemented the existing period details while incorporating modern functionality for everyday life.
Our Handcrafted Joinery Solution
We designed and fitted a perfectly symmetrical pair of alcove units, providing a combination of enclosed storage and open display shelving. To ensure the units blended seamlessly with the room’s architecture, we incorporated traditional-style doors and a period-appropriate cornice.
To elevate the design, we integrated modern features for a touch of luxury and convenience. The cabinet doors are fitted with soft-close hinges, and subtle LED lighting was installed to beautifully illuminate the items on display, adding warmth and ambiance to the room.
Premium Materials and Finishing Touches
The unit carcasses were built from high-quality oak veneer, ensuring a strong and stable structure. Inside the base units, adjustable shelves provide versatile storage options. The standout feature is the impeccable, professional spray finish in ‘Yard Blue’ by Farrow & Ball. This timeless, understated blue gives the units a classic, hand-painted look with the durability of a modern finish, perfectly completing the blend of old and new.
