A stunning wrap around bookcase made & fitted in Brockdish

A floor-to-ceiling bespoke oak bookshelf and corner reading unit, designed and fitted for a client in Bury St Edmunds.

The Client’s Vision

Our client, a passionate reader with an extensive book collection, needed a storage solution that was both expansive and elegant. The primary goal was to create as much bookshelf space as possible, transforming a room into a personal library. They also requested a small, custom-designed corner unit to house smaller books and provide a practical area for stand-up reading.

Our Handcrafted Joinery Solution

The Perkins & Co team designed and built a complete, floor-to-ceiling shelving system tailored precisely to the room’s dimensions. The design maximises vertical space for the main collection while the bespoke corner unit creates a distinct, functional zone for reading.

Crafted in our Hinderclay workshop, the entire structure was meticulously planned to accommodate modern living. We seamlessly integrated electrical sockets into the design, providing convenient power for lighting or charging devices without disrupting the classic aesthetic.

Premium Materials and Finishing Touches

We used a combination of high-quality materials to achieve a durable and sophisticated result. The main carcasses are built from crown cut oak veneer panels, providing stability and a consistent grain. For all high-contact areas, including the faceframes, doors, cornice, and skirting, we used solid oak.

Attention to detail is evident in the hardware choices. Adjustable brass bookcase strips offer flexibility for shelving, while Carlisle Brass knurled T-bar handles add a contemporary tactile detail. For smooth and silent operation, all doors are fitted with premium Blum soft-close hinges. The entire piece was finished in Rubio Monocoat pure oil, which protects the wood with a durable, natural-looking matte finish.
